Mark your calendars! Its time to start thinking about Kids Tri 4 Kids 2012.

ScotiaMcLeod is thrilled to present the second annual Kids Tri 4 Kids on Sunday, June 10th at Carling Heights Community Centre,LondonON.

Last year’s event was a huge success as we raised over $15,000 for Childreach, a local charity whose main focus is to ensure every child has the best start to life by supporting the adults who care for them. The funds raised helped, in part, to open a new and much needed Outreach Program in Cherryhill Mall.

Online registration is now open!  Space is limited so register early to ensure your spot in this year’s race. Be sure to sign up before May 27th to get your personalized race bib.

The entry fee is $42 per participant, with a minimum of $12 going directly to Childreach. We are also pleased to offer a family discount this year. The second, third and fourth child registered will be at a reduced cost of $37 however, you must register all participants at the same time under the family option to receive the discount.

We know you had a great time last year, so be sure to share this post to all your friends and family so they can join us at this amazing event.

Please visit our website for event details and to register.

We can’t wait to see you there.

The fall, whether it be for Thanksgiving, High Holy Days, Diwali or other traditions, is a time when many of us gather with friends and family to enjoy good company and good food.  As you gather this year, we encourage you to start a new family tradition focused on charitable giving. Take the time to start a conversation about what donating means to your family and to inspire the young people in your life to become the next generation of donors!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Talk to your children or younger relatives about the causes that matter to you and why you choose to support them.  Discuss all of the great things that charities do in all sectors (healthcare, animals, the environment, education, international development, social services etc…).

Visit or volunteer at a charity you’ve supported in the past to see first-hand the important work they do with your donations. Be sure to set up a time to visit in advance – service demands go up for many charities around holidays.

Make this time of year the time that you set your annual giving budget. Decide the amount that works for you , and how you would like to split that amount among the causes you support.

 Ask everyone to research a charity they would like to support.  Before a meal, go around the table and ask everyone to say a few words about the charity they chose and the impact that organization has on the community.

Thanks to our generous donors, over the last year Childreach has:

  •  led monthly Parent Circle programs in the Kipps Lane community, bringing families together to address parenting and neighbourhood challenges;
  • introduced a new summer program AND a second stage program for our young moms group that has doubled in size;
  • provided over 100 one-on-one parenting sessions to parents that are struggling; some of which required a translator;
  • piloted a very successful ready for school family literacy program in a vacant store at Northland Mall.

Parents are the most important influence on a young child.  By supporting parents, we work toward our dream of the best start in life for all children.  We can’t do it alone.

Thanks for Giving!

Planning a stay-cation during the winter break?   We invite you to bring your children 0-6 years of age to our playroom for lots of FUN at NO COST.  For the first time, we are opening our doors between Christmas and New Years.  The playroom will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (December 28 – 29) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This is a great opportunity for those of you who work Monday to Friday and aren’t able to visit the playroom with your children during the week year-round.   It’s especially good for those days when the children begin to get bored, and you need to get out of the house!

Happy holidays from the staff  of Childreach!!

One of our clients, Caroline Lightowler, is a representative for Lovable Labels and she made us aware of the fundraising opportunity that they offer.  We took a look, and decided it was so easy that we should do it!

Lovable Labels are extra tough, colourful and fun labels, perfect for labeling all of your kids stuff.  They are laundry, dishwasher and microwave safe, and are available in sticker labels, iron-ons, shoe labels and bag tags.  You can personalize them with your child’s name and a fun icon.

 And, this fundraiser is entirely paperless!  Simply go to the dedicated website, www.childreach.lovablelabels.ca, check out all of the products and order.  20% of the total sales received through this site will come to Childreach.  Our “campaign” will run from today until January 6, 2011.

There is a display of the products in the playroom if you’d like to take a look, and if you need additional information, Caroline would be happy to provide it.  She may be reached at 519-453-0575 or Lightowler@lovablelabels.ca.

Please feel free to forward this post to anyone with young children that might be interested in purchasing some Lovable Labels.  They are good quality, and will help your kids keep and get their stuff back home.

 Thank you.

I am pleased to announce that our 6th Annual Soup & Chili Luncheon raised $671 which has already been turned over to the 2010 United Way Campaign.  That’s  more than we raised at last year’s event!   I’d like to thank everyone who came for lunch and those who couldn’t make it but still donated!  Thank you to The Village Harvest Bakery for their donation of bread!  And as always, I’d like to thank my wonderful co-workers who lent their cooking talents and crock pots filled with delicious soups and chilis.

Without you, there would be no way.
